The World Backgammon Federation (WBGF) is proud to announce its own WBGF World Championship, which is intended to be held alongside its Teams (National & Women's) World Championships. This event is meant to complement the BGWC Backgammon World Championship in Monte Carlo by providing an additional opportunity, under a different format and with more accessible entry fees.

The WBGF wishes to make it clear to the backgammon community that it is in no way in conflict with the BGWC Backgammon World Championship. On the contrary, the WBGF fully recognizes and respects the tremendous work that has been done to promote backgammon through the long-standing BGWC Backgammon World Championship in Monte Carlo.

The WBGF further emphasizes that there would be no scope for any confusion for any player between the WBGF World Championship and the BGWC Backgammon World Championship in Monte Carlo. The WBGF World Championship will be hosted each year by the WBGF in a different member federation's territory and at varying times of the year, whereas the BGWC Backgammon World Championship is always held in Monte Carlo, traditionally in late July or early August.

The WBGF further wishes to make clear that the BGWC Backgammon World Championship in Monte Carlo remains a respected and important event. Both championships can coexist, offering players different experiences while serving the same goal: the promotion and growth of backgammon worldwide.

The WBGF will also be offering a WBGF Women's World Championship, beginning in Dubai in 2027.

The WBGF asks all players and members of the backgammon community to support these opportunities for distinction offered by the WBGF and the BGWC in a positive spirit. Let us celebrate the fact that backgammon is gaining more opportunities and visibility, and work together to foster unity, respect, and enthusiasm in our sport.
